The following quotation is something I use on all sorts of sites that ask "about me" or otherwise indicate it/they want a bit of biography. You may have seen it yourself. Sometimes it is edited down, but this is the "full" version:
I am the original echo. I'm one big crazy diamond queen. I am the undertow of the worst driven cow. I can make a short story long. Supererogation is my thing. My purse can also be used as a weapon. I fall off the face of the earth. I am the center of the echoverse. I am echo — with a lowercase e.
Why? What strange reason could I possibly have for the continued use of the qualifier "with a lowercase e"?
Simple: to distinguish myself from all the other Echoes out there. One specific Echo is actually to blame for all of this.
DOLLHOUSE was a TV series created by my "Dear Leader," Joss Whedon. Eliza Dushku portrayed the main character, Echo.
You see, back in 2007, Joss Whedon & Eliza Dushku announced they were making a show about me! I kid, but I will admit that way back then I wrote this entire speech about how honored I was that Joss & Eliza felt fit to make a series together featuring me. The whole thing was a ha-ha and it's a shame it never made it to the web.
Before we go any further: echoverse.org & my usage of "the echoverse" began in 2004, way before DOLLHOUSE was a glint in Joss's eye.
But Joss did have a hand in the naming of the echoverse. Inspired by people referring to his various works as the Buffyverse, Jossverse, Whedonverse, etc., I decided to name my existence as well. I've been calling myself echo online forever (well, since 2000), so I just ran with it. Echoverse.org was registered in 2004, cementing my uninverse's name and thereby declaring me the "original" echo.
This is where things could get confusing, I thought. I love Joss, I love Eliza — I'm probably going to be talking a lot about this show. How could I not? The perfect recipe had been mixed and, shout-out or not, people might start using Echoverse in reference to the series.
If I was going to write about DOLLHOUSE, I had to find a distinction between me and the fictional character.
So that's where this "lowercase e" business came from. As it turns out, I was without my own personal computer during DOLLHOUSE's run, making it a moot point. I never got to write about the Dollverse...
Furthermore, I just like the way the name echo looks without an uppercase E.
So there you have it. I was echo first!
And if you find that this document doesn't satisfy your curiosity about me — I am aware that I digress — older, yet more in-depth information about me resides on the.echoverse.org.
